Shravani Mela Deoghar Cab Package - tour package from Ranchi

Starts in
Ranchi
Duration
2D/1N
Distance
630 km
Starts at
₹10,999
Best time to visit
Shravan only - roughly late July to late August; Shravani Mela 2026 ran 29 July to 28 August

The Shravani Mela cab package from Ranchi to Deoghar runs two days and 630 km during the Shravan month, covers Baidyanath Dham and Basukinath around the mela's traffic restrictions, and starts at ₹10,999 for a sedan carrying four passengers - about 29% above the normal-season price, because the car waits many extra hours at a distant parking lot.

For one month of the year Deoghar stops being a town you drive into. Shravani Mela brings fifty to fifty-five lakh pilgrims in thirty days - the district administration calls it the longest religious fair in the world - and the whole road system around the temple is rebuilt for people on foot. No vehicle gets near the shrine, the queue has run to ten kilometres on a Shravan Monday, and all VIP and out-of-turn darshan is abolished. This package exists because the trip is still worth making, and because you should be told all of that before you book rather than after.

What this package covers

  • Jalabhishek at Baba Baidyanath during Shravan, the month the whole pilgrimage is built around
  • Basukinath Dham on day two, when the Deoghar crowd thins
  • A driver who knows the mela diversions and where the car is actually allowed to stand
  • Departure timed around the Shravan Mondays, which are the peak inside the peak
  • Honest, written expectations - queue length, walking distance and what is suspended

Day-by-day itinerary

  1. 1

Ranchi → Deoghar, jalabhishek (252 km)

Pickup at 04:00 - earlier than the normal-season package, because the last 20 km into Deoghar is where mela traffic collapses. Reach the outer parking by late morning. From there the temple is reached on foot along the marked kanwariya route; your driver will tell you the walk before you set off, and it is not short. Darshan through the argha, then the walk back. Overnight in Deoghar. The car stays with the driver at the designated lot throughout.

  2. 2

    Basukinath → Ranchi

Leave early for Basukinath, 45 km on NH-114A. Basukinath carries its own mela crowd but it is a fraction of Deoghar's, and the morning is the best of it. Darshan, lunch, and on the road back to Ranchi by early afternoon. Drop by about 22:00 - later than the normal-season package, because the mela traffic runs both ways.

Frequently asked questions

When is Shravani Mela in Deoghar?

Shravani Mela fills the Hindu month of Shravan, which moves each year. In 2026 it ran from 29 July to 28 August, with the four Shravan Mondays - the peak days - falling on 3, 10, 17 and 24 August. For 2027 the expected window is 18 July to 17 August, derived from the panchang: the mela opens on Guru Purnima and closes on Shravan Purnima. Treat 2027 as expected rather than fixed - the Jharkhand government usually announces the dates only a few weeks ahead, and Raahi Saarthi will not take a non-refundable 2027 mela booking against an unannounced date.

Can the cab drop us at the Baidyanath temple gate during the mela?

No, and nobody else's can either. During Shravani Mela the Deoghar administration publishes a no-entry zone around the Baba Mandir and a separate mela parking and traffic plan; private vehicles stop at designated lots and everything from there is on foot along the marked route. Your driver will take you as close as the plan allows on the day, tell you the walking distance before you get out, and wait at the lot for as long as it takes at no extra charge.

Why does the mela package cost more than the normal Deoghar package?

Because the car is held for far longer and cannot be turned around. In normal season a Deoghar day means a few hours of waiting; during the mela the diversions, the outer parking and a queue that can run four to eight hours mean the vehicle and driver are committed for most of the day and night. Deoghar hotel rates for the driver also multiply in Shravan. The uplift is about 29% on the normal 2-day price and it is stated on the page rather than added at the end - local Deoghar operators simply void their published tariff for the mela month.

Should we take elderly parents to Deoghar during Shravani Mela?

Honestly, usually not. The mela means a long walk from the parking lot, a queue of four to eight hours with no seating and no fast-track available to anyone, monsoon heat and humidity, and crowds of two to three lakh people on a Shravan Monday. If the intention is a Shravan darshan specifically, travel on a weekday rather than a Sunday or Monday and expect a very long day. If the intention is Babadham itself, October to March gives the same darshan with a queue that clears inside a couple of hours, and Raahi Saarthi will say so on the phone.

Can you arrange a cab for kanwariyas walking from Sultanganj?

Yes, as a support vehicle rather than a substitute for the walk. Sultanganj to Babadham is about 105 km on foot and the cab cannot follow the padyatra path itself. What it does is carry luggage and the family members who are not walking, meet the walkers at pre-agreed points along the road, and bring everyone home from Deoghar afterwards. Tell us the plan when booking and we will quote it as a fixed multi-day package rather than by the kilometre.
