Ranchi Waterfalls Day Tour - itinerary, price and pickup points
The Ranchi waterfalls day tour covers Hundru Falls, Jonha Falls and Dassam Falls in one 157 km loop from Ranchi (165 km with Sita Falls), takes about 11 hours door to door, and starts at ₹2,999 for a hatchback carrying four passengers.
Three of Jharkhand's best-known waterfalls in a single day, in the only order that actually works. Hundru first while the light is still low and the stairs are empty, Jonha at midday when the pool is warmest, and Dassam last because it is closest to Ranchi on the way home. Most operators run this route backwards and people end up climbing Hundru's 745-odd steps in the afternoon heat.
What this package covers
- Hundru Falls - 320 ft, the tallest in Ranchi district and the most photographed
- Jonha Falls (Gautamdhara) - a 150 ft plunge into a temple pool
- Dassam Falls - ten separate streams over a single rock face
- Sita Falls, an optional stop right beside Jonha (adds about 8 km)
Day-by-day itinerary
- 1
Hundru → Jonha → Dassam → Ranchi
Pickup at 06:30. Hundru Falls (45 km, about 1 hr 30 min) by 08:00, when the gate opens - the roughly 745 steps down to the base are far easier before the sun is up properly, and you get the falls almost to yourself. Jonha Falls, 24 km on, by 11:30, with time for the Gautamdhara temple and the pool. Leave Jonha by 13:30: Dassam is 53 km away by the Bundu road, 1 hr 20 min to 1 hr 40 min, with lunch on the way. Dassam Falls by about 15:15 - 185 steps down to the base, and the gate closes at 17:00 - then back in Ranchi, 40 km, by 18:00.

Frequently asked questions
Can all three Ranchi waterfalls be covered in one day?
Yes. The Ranchi-Hundru-Jonha-Dassam-Ranchi loop is about 157 km of driving (165 km if you add Sita Falls), and a 06:30 start gets all three done with a return by 18:00. The order matters: do Hundru first, when its gate opens at 08:00, because its roughly 745 steps are genuinely hard in afternoon heat. Budget the Jonha to Dassam leg properly - the two falls are on different highways and 53-64 km apart, 1 hr 20 min to 1 hr 40 min by cab, not the 20 minutes some itineraries show.
Is it safe to swim at the Ranchi waterfalls?
Jonha's lower pool is the only one of the three where swimming is reasonably safe, and only in the marked shallow area. Hundru and Dassam both have strong undercurrents and have caused fatalities - the rocks near the base are also slick with algae year-round. During and just after monsoon, stay out of the water at all three. Dassam had a drowning as recently as October 2025, and on 23 September 2026 the Ranchi district administration issued a safety advisory for Hundru, Jonha, Dassam, Sita and Remix falls after heavy rain and water releases from Getalsud Dam. No formal closure was reported, but check conditions on the day and keep to the viewing areas.
