Puri & Konark 3 Days / 2 Nights - tour package from Ranchi
The Puri and Konark 3-day tour from Ranchi covers about 1,150 km, includes Shree Jagannath Temple darshan, Golden Beach and the Konark Sun Temple, and starts at ₹15,999 for a sedan carrying four passengers, all-inclusive of fuel, tolls, parking, the Odisha permit and driver allowance.
The long-weekend version, and we will be straight about its shape: two of the three days are driving days. Ranchi to Puri is 512 km on the short road through Chaibasa and Keonjhar, eleven to twelve hours in the car, and the same coming back. What sits between them is one very full day - Jagannath darshan at first light, Golden Beach, the Marine Drive to Konark and the Sun Temple. If that trade is worth it to you, this is the cheapest honest way to stand in front of the Jagannath temple. If it is not, the 4-day version costs ₹4,000 more and gives you an entire second day in Puri.
What this package covers

What you will actually see

Day-by-day itinerary
- 1
Ranchi → Puri (512 km)
Pickup at 05:30. South on NH-20 through Khunti and Chaibasa, then the Keonjhar mining belt - two-lane and shared with ore trucks, which is what makes this eleven hours rather than eight. Lunch at Keonjhargarh. The last stretch through Cuttack and Bhubaneswar is dual carriageway and quick. Reach Puri around 17:00, in daylight. Evening on the beach at Swargadwar. Overnight in Puri.
- 2
Jagannath darshan → Golden Beach → Konark
At the Singhadwara by 05:30 - it is the only entry gate and the early slot is the real fast track, because there is no paid one. Phones, cameras, leather and bags stay in the car; free deposit stands are provided at the barricade. Darshan, then Mahaprasad at Ananda Bazaar if you want it. Sunrise is already over by then, so Golden Beach comes next, and the Marine Drive to Konark at about 09:30. Konark Sun Temple, the museum and Chandrabhaga beach through the middle of the day, and back to Puri by evening.
- 3
Puri → Ranchi (512 km)
Early start, 06:00, because it is the same eleven-hour road home and nobody wants the Keonjhar section after dark. Breakfast on the way out of Bhubaneswar, lunch at Keonjhargarh, drop at your Ranchi address by about 18:00. If your group would rather split the drive, we will end day two at Balasore instead and make it an easier morning.

Frequently asked questions
Is 3 days enough for a Puri trip from Ranchi?
Three days is enough for Jagannath darshan and Konark, and nothing else. Ranchi to Puri is 512 km and eleven to twelve hours each way, so days one and three are driving days and day two carries the whole trip. Raahi Saarthi sells it because plenty of people only have a long weekend, but if you have a fourth day, the 4-day package at ₹19,999 for a sedan adds a full second day in Puri and is the version we recommend.
Are non-Hindus allowed inside the Jagannath Temple in Puri?
Entry inside Shree Jagannath Temple, Puri is restricted to Hindus, and the restriction is enforced at the Singhadwara without exception - a serving foreign ambassador was kept to the exterior in 2024. Visitors who are not admitted can take Patitapavana darshan of the deity's image from outside the Lion's Gate, and view the temple from the Raghunandan Library rooftop opposite. Everything else in this itinerary - Konark, the beaches, the Marine Drive - is open to everyone, so a mixed group still has a full trip. Lingaraj Temple in Bhubaneswar has the same rule, with a viewing platform outside.
What time should we reach the Jagannath temple for darshan?
Be at the Singhadwara by 05:30. The temple opens at 04:30 with Mangala Alati at 05:30, and the early morning is genuinely the fastest way in, because darshan is interrupted through the day by the ritual schedule and there is no reliable paid fast-track - the old ₹50 Parimanik darshan has been suspended since 2016. Leave phones, cameras, leather items and bags in the car; the temple administration runs free deposit stands at the Lion's Gate barricade.
Is a Jharkhand taxi allowed into Odisha, and who pays the border charge?
Yes, and Raahi Saarthi pays it. We run Odisha trips on an All India Tourist Permit, the national permit that covers inter-state operation, and the cost is inside the package price - you never hand money to anyone at a check-post on NH-16. Carrying the permit, fitness, insurance and driver badge is our job. Operators quoting a bare per-kilometre rate routinely exclude 'state border charges' and collect them from you at the end.
When should we not plan a Puri trip?
Two windows. The first is Anasara, the fortnight after Snana Yatra when the deities are moved to the Anasara Ghar and there is no public darshan at Srimandir at all - in 2026 that ran 29 June to 14 July, and pilgrims traditionally go to Alarnath at Brahmagiri instead, 22 km away. The second is Rath Yatra itself, 16 July in 2026 and an expected 5 July in 2027, when Bada Danda and every approach road becomes a no-vehicle zone and hotel rates multiply. October and November also carry real cyclone risk on this coast, so we build an IMD-triggered reschedule into packages in those months.
