Trikut is a three-peaked granite hill 19 km out of Deoghar on the Dumka road, rising to 753 metres with the Trikutachal Mahadeva temple and the hermitage of Sage Dayananda at the top. It was best known for its ropeway - and that is the thing to be clear about, because most of the internet still is not: the ropeway has been closed since the accident of 10 April 2022, in which three people died and seventy-eight were left hanging, some for forty-five hours. It was still shut through 2026 with the operator blacklisted and no reopening announced. The summit is reachable, but on foot.

How to reach Trikut Parvat (Trikut Pahar) from Ranchi

Trikut Parvat is 19 km from Deoghar on the NH-114A road towards Dumka, a 30 to 45 minute drive, and about 271 km from Ranchi. It is normally visited as a half-day add-on to a two-day Deoghar trip rather than as a destination in its own right. Raahi Saarthi drives you to the base and waits; the climb is yours.

Highlights

  • Three granite peaks; only two are considered safe to climb
  • Trikutachal Mahadeva temple and the Dayananda hermitage at the top
  • 753 m (2,470 ft), standing about 1,500 ft above the Deoghar plain
  • A roughly two-hour climb by stairs and trail, with local guides at the base

Insider tips

  • The ropeway is closed - do not plan around it, and do not trust the fares still shown on the operator's own website
  • The climb is real: two hours up, loose rock in places, not suitable for elderly parents or small children
  • Start early; there is no shade on the upper section
  • Carry water - there is nothing to buy above the base
  • Pair it with Tapovan, which is on the same side of Deoghar
