Betla + Netarhat 3 Days / 2 Nights - tour package from Ranchi
The Betla and Netarhat 3-day tour from Ranchi covers about 560 km, pairs two Palamau Tiger Reserve open-jeep safaris with Netarhat's sunset and sunrise points and Lodh Falls, runs from October to June (Betla is closed 1 July to 30 September), and starts at ₹12,999 for a sedan carrying four passengers.
Jharkhand's western circuit done properly: a tiger reserve and a hill station that sit only about 93 km apart and are almost always visited separately, at the cost of two long drives from Ranchi instead of one. Three days gets you an afternoon and a morning safari at Betla, the forest-road drive across via Garu, both Netarhat viewpoints, and Lodh Falls on the way home.
What this package covers

- Palamu Fort - the ruined Chero-era forts, about 5 km from the Betla gate
- Lodh Falls - 468 ft, the highest in Jharkhand
- Netarhat sunset at Magnolia Point and sunrise the next morning
Day-by-day itinerary
- 1
Ranchi → Betla (170 km)
Pickup at 07:00 and out via Ratu, Kuru, Chandwa and Latehar, then NH-39 and the Kechki road to the gate - 4 hr 15 min to 4 hr 45 min, so Betla by about 11:30-12:00. Check in at the forest rest house or in Daltonganj, 24 km away. Afternoon safari slot at 14:00, about 90 minutes in a registered open jeep (our cab waits at Bison Gate - private cars are not allowed inside), followed by the watchtowers at dusk - the best elephant sightings are in the last hour of light. Overnight at Betla.
- 2
Betla safari → Netarhat (93 km)
Morning safari at 06:00 - the coolest slot, with the most animal movement and an outside chance of a leopard. Back for breakfast, Palamu Fort on the way out, then the forest-road drive to Netarhat via Chhipadohar and Garu - 93 km, about 2.5 to 3 hours - reaching by about 15:00. This road does not go through Mahuadanr; Lodh Falls is saved for day 3. Magnolia Point, 10 km from town, for sunset. Overnight in Netarhat.
- 3
Sunrise → Lodh Falls → Ranchi (257 km)
Sunrise Point, a short walk from JTDC Prabhat Vihar - leave about 30 minutes before sunrise, which is about 05:50-06:37 from October to March and 05:06-05:33 from April to June. Breakfast, check out by 09:00. Lodh Falls, 60 km away via Mahuadanr, for a two-hour stop, then the long return to Ranchi on the lower road via Mahuadanr, Bishunpur and Lohardaga - about 197 km, so about 257 km for the day. Drop by 20:00.

Frequently asked questions
How do I book a Betla safari jeep?
Book it online on the Palamau Tiger Reserve's official portal, palamautigerreserve.in, at ₹2,450 per jeep for up to 6 adults and 2 children (the 2025-26 rate), paid directly to the reserve, not to a cab operator. There are two slots, morning from 06:00 and afternoon from 14:00, each about 90 minutes, and the portal lists Tuesday as the weekly holiday. Since October 2025 only registered open safari jeeps may go inside - private cars and SUVs, including our cab, park at Bison Gate - so the jeep is a separate booking even on this package.
Can the Betla and Netarhat tour run in July, August or September?
No. Betla National Park closes to visitors every year from 1 July to 30 September on NTCA orders and reopens on 1 October, so this 3-day package runs only from October to June. Netarhat and Lodh Falls stay open through the monsoon, and so do Palamu Fort and Kechki outside the park, so a Netarhat-only trip is the monsoon alternative.
How far is Betla National Park from Ranchi?
About 170 km from central Ranchi (175 km from Ranchi Junction), via Ratu, Kuru, Chandwa and Latehar, then NH-39 and the Kechki road to the gate - 4 hr 15 min to 4 hr 45 min by cab. That is the figure the Palamau Tiger Reserve and the Latehar district give; the 140 km still quoted on some travel sites is too low. Because the 06:00 safari would mean leaving Ranchi around 01:30, this package takes the 14:00 slot on arrival and the 06:00 slot the next morning.
Will I actually see a tiger at Betla?
Honestly, almost certainly not. Palamau Tiger Reserve has no resident tigress, and only a handful of transient males have been recorded since 2022-23, so sightings are rare even for regulars. What you will reliably see is elephants, gaur, sambar, chital, langur and peafowl, with an occasional leopard. Go for the forest, not the tiger, and you will not be disappointed.
